Sally Fallon Morell is founding president of The Weston A. Price Foundation (westonaprice.org), a non-profit nutrition education foundation dedicated to returning nutrient-dense food to North American tables. She is also the founder of A Campaign for Real Milk (realmilk.com), which has as its goal universal access to clean raw milk from pasture-fed animals. She is the author of the best-selling cookbook Nourishing Traditions (with Mary G. Enig, PhD); The Nourishing Traditions Book of Baby & Child Care (with Thomas S. Cowan, MD); Nourishing Broth (with Kaayla T. Daniel, PhD, CCN); and Nourishing Fats.
In this video interview I talk with Sally about her most recent book Nourishing Diets: How Paleo, Ancestral and Traditional Peoples Really Ate. Sally's past work on traditional diet brought me back from a year of vegetarianism, and has been incredibly influential on my newfound health. But her new book takes it to a whole new level. Going back into diary accounts from the pre-industrial Europeans and the first explorers to have contact with traditional peoples in the Americas, Africa, and Australia she paints a compelling picture of their diet, impeccable health and how they managed their land holistically. Never before have I read such an inspiring account of what is possible when the health of land and the health of its people are viewed as one.

In this video I interview Sheryl McCumsey from Pesticide Free Alberta (Edmonton and Canada too!). Sheryl worked in the field of medical microbiology as a technologist at the U of A hospital for 13 years. During that time she worked with microbes like Clostridium difficle which is becoming more of a concern in both agriculture and in human health. She took a year of journalism school at Grant MacEwan college, spent a number of years doing a variety of jobs at Mtn. Equip co-op and currently works out of her home as a registered massage therapist. In the last 5 years she has spent thousands of hours researching concerns around pesticides in her work with Pesticide Free Edmonton. This group now has contacts with groups across Canada, with scientists and with groups outside of Canada. Pesticide Free Edmonton is a grassroots volunteer group that began 25 years ago created by a number of professionals concerned about the urban use of pesticides for dandelions that can harm human health and are done for aesthetic reasons. In her research she became aware of how pesticides are not properly assessed or regulated and that there are safer alternatives we could all be encouraging. She became aware that many health concerns have taken a dramatic upturn and that this is likely a result of the huge increases we see in their use. In recent years she has been giving presentations to groups on these concerns and encourages others to make changes in their lives to protect themselves and those they care about. As well, her group also tries to encourage changes in policy at the local and provincial level.
